gin and tonic

Well the good news is the sun is here - flat calm water, clear blue seas, and warm enough to consider gin and tonic on the beach watching the sun go down. Dahab remains as normal as ever and only hears about the revolution of a few months ago in the odd bar conversation. Finally the media are saying the Sinai is a great place to visit (BBC Fasttrack this week) but its just a shame they neglected to mention there were no problems here when they were covering Tahrir Square in such a sensationalist way 2 months ago ! ahh well, if we didnt dislike the media what would bond us all together !!

Here comes the sun...

Poseidon Divers welcomes back the rest of their staff members! All of our Instructors from last season have returned (that has to be a good sign! ) from their winter breaks and we celebrated in Poseidon fashion with a few cold ones at Blue Beach last night. It's great to have everyone back and getting ready for spring. The weather has been fantastic and we have definitely been enjoying the sun!

We have so many exciting things in the works including a new network of Dive Centres called Global Dive Network. Check out the new website... www.globaldivenetwork.com
We have teamed up with 6 other Dive Centres across the globe offering more fun, discounts, dive jobs and as always amazing standards of teaching!

We have had a plethora of interesting marine life spottings, just right here in the bay, including a seagrass ghost pipe fish, Spotted Shrimpfishes, Seamoths and our own frogfish. We had a little black frogfish living at the bottom of our buoy line over the winter and we think it has moved, grown and changed it's colors. Either way, we all hope it stays put and if you book your tickets to Dahab quick enough we will take you to visit him (check him out in the picture above).

We are also looking forward to the upcoming April IDC. We are happy to have one of our former Gap Year Diver Interns returning to complete her Instructor Course! Jess was here in October last year for 10 weeks completing her Rescue and Divemaster Courses. The IDC starts on April 11th so it's not too late to sign up and join Jess!
We are all looking forward to the year to come and are hoping to see lots of familiar faces as well as new ones. If you are interested on keeping a closer eye on life at Poseidon, check us out on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Poseidon-Divers-Dahab/148286448527630

Rain, Hail and Thunder storms!

After a LONG night of Rain, Hail and Thunder stroms! - No diving activities have been cancelled! Weather forecast called it "Light Showers" and as a result roads to Sharm-El-Sheikh have been closed for today. No serious damage has been done. We all really enjoyed having hail in Dahab, even though some of us have to come to work after getting ready in the dark (Electric generators had been switched off!) - it's been exactly year this last happened!

This morning, the sea is flat and the wind is calm. :)

Tuesday weather forecast: Heavy Rain.

Lonely Planet Magazine

I know it's a bit late but check out the December edition of Lonely Planet Magazine and find Dahab rated as best for beaches and sea life! You will even find a picture of April, one of our Instructors posing for a photo at the dive centre.
The holiday season flew by at Poseidon, we kept ourselves busy through the New Year. Many of our Instructors have had the chance to head home to spend time with their families including traveling to Norway, America, Brazil, Sweden, Scotland, Thailand, The Netherlands and even Canada! We will all reunite soon and be ready for the 2011 season!!! Hope to see you this year!
